MDA Health Plan: When can you make health plan changes throughout the year?

• Qualifying event:  If you have an employee or a dependent who involuntarily loses health coverage, he or she has 60 days from the date of the event to be added to the MDA Health Plan.
Qualifying events include, but may not be limited to, a job loss, marriage, divorce, birth or death.
• New hire waiting period: This is the length of time the plan sponsor has stipulated before a new employee or an employee who has changed to full-time status can be added to the plan. Options include date of hire, 30 days, 60 days, or 90 days, the maximum waiting period. If the new employee does not sign up for the plan when he or she is eligible, the employee can only be added to the plan due to a qualifying event or during the fall open enrollment period for benefits effective the following year.
• Open enrollment for 2020 MDA Health Plan runs Oct. 1–Nov. 15: This is when you can change plan designs, eligibility requirements, or add employees who have previously waived the plan.
