Five things to review about your Medicare plan

Medicare plans can change from year to year. Taking a little time this fall to review your coverage can help you avoid surprises in 2027.

  1. Read your Annual Notice of Change
Your plan should send you an Annual Notice of Change in September. This notice explains any changes to your costs, benefits, drug coverage, or provider network for the coming year. Be sure to review it carefully.
  2. Watch for a plan termination notice
Some members enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans may receive a termination notice rather than an Annual Notice of Change. This can happen when an insurance carrier decides to discontinue a plan, often because it is no longer financially viable.

Receiving a termination notice can understandably be concerning, but there are other plan options available. MDA Insurance is here to help members review their choices and find coverage that continues to meet their health care needs.

  1. Make sure your doctors are still in your plan
If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, confirm that the doctors and other providers you want to see will still be in your plan’s network next year. Even if your notice lists provider changes, it is a good idea to double-check with your plan or doctor’s office.
  2. Review your prescription drug coverage
Prescription coverage can also change from year to year. Your monthly premium, copays, deductibles, or covered medications may be different in 2027. Visit Medicare.gov to review your medications and compare plan options for the coming year.
  3. Important update on Medicare Part D prescription drug plan guidance
MDA Insurance wants members to be aware of an important change regarding Medicare Part D prescription drug plans. Unfortunately, Part D carriers have made the decision to stop working with agents, which means MDA Insurance now has very limited access to carrier systems and plan information.

Because carriers are also directing members to file grievances if an agent makes a recommendation that later becomes an issue, MDA Insurance must be especially cautious in how it assists with Part D plan selection. For that reason, members are being directed to Medicare.gov to compare plans based on their medications and pharmacy preferences.

MDA Insurance is disappointed by this change, particularly because providing personalized service to members has always been a priority. To continue offering support, MDA Insurance is creating a recording that will walk members through how to price medications, compare plans and understand what to look for when choosing a plan.

MDA Insurance remains available to assist members with any Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage questions or changes.
