Overview

Often called travel insurance plans, “Short Term Medical” policies are specifically designed to cover both medical and travel experiences for a maximum of 11 months. They allow you to choose your own policy maximum and deductible, allowing you to stay in control of your coverage and the price. Unlike major medical or long-term plans, short term insurance also allows you to purchase the exact amount of days that you need, but typically require you pay upfront for the period you need coverage. Many short-term plans exclude pre-existing condition coverage, meaning that if you develop a condition on your first plan it may not be covered if you purchase a second short-term plan.

Note: This coverage does NOT qualify as health insurance under the requirements of the Affordable Care Act and cannot be used to meet the ACA’s requirement for individual health insurance.
