Depending on the type of health plan you’re buying, the open enrollment period can vary. Here’s the breakdown:
• MDA Health Plan: New plans can be started by employers at any time. However, keep in mind there is a 30-day lead time and plans become effective on the first day of the following month.
• Medicare, Individual Medicare supplemental plans, Medicare Advantage plans, Medigap plans, and prescription drug cards: Open enrollment ends Dec. 7, 2019. All changes/enrollments are effective Jan. 1, 2020.
• Group health plans: Plans can be started by employers at any time. There is a 30-day lead time and plans become effective on the first day of the following month.
• Individual health plans such as MyBlue or subsidized health plans purchased through the online Marketplace: Open enrollment ends Dec. 15 with a Jan. 1 effective date.
